PORTFOLIO

Paulino Astudillo divides his work into different periods and stages that have been marked by his trends in the use of color; however, despite these divisions, his work is unified by the attraction of an inner world flooded with a sea of emotions that he captures in each of his pieces. His works contain more than color and figures; they contain feelings, stories, journeys, not only experienced by him but also by his characters.

ORIGIN

In his first stage as a painter, earthy backgrounds betray the origins of his past in Taltal “where time forgot its old boots” – invoking the verses of Andrés Sabella – once a nitrate port of the Norte Grande.
It is a stage at the same time marked by exploration, a new world opens up to the eyes of the painter who expresses his curiosity in works full of character.

COLOR

The artist extends an invitation to expression and freedom, to forging our paths through the simplest daily acts. Capturing everyday hues, the ordinary is transformed into the mystical through color, illustrating that the common, when viewed through an artistic lens, becomes extraordinary.

MOTIVATION

There is a search for shapes and colors that escape from reality, yet withstand a realistic interpretation.

It aims to find the detail that evokes reality, but a subjective reality as perceived by the individual experiencing it.

INTENSITY

His work is dominated by reddish tones, unsettling dreams, and colors that burst forth with temperament, alongside characters bearing a hidden mystery.

The contrasts and strong emotions stand out, embodying the multitude of feelings that overflow the artist’s life, prompting an intense and fervent expression.

WATERSCAPES

Water, often termed the elixir of life, becomes a precious treasure amidst the parched expanses of the world’s most arid desert. Yet, its presence extends beyond, coursing secretly beneath the ground, nourishing life in hushed reverence. It witnesses both tranquil and tempestuous encounters, cradles tales of conflict and peace, and sets the stage for romantic sunsets. The northern reaches of Chile serve as a canvas of ceaseless wonder, offering daily marvels in hues and forms that inspire and captivate.

MUSES

Paulino likes to portray the strength, delicacy, audacity, unhappiness, reliability of every woman that wants to be immortalized in that special timeframe of her life. The muses are women that have made history of her own.

OASIS

Pica is a verdant jewel nestled in the heart of Chile’s arid north, a miraculous whisper of green against the backdrop of vast desert sands. An oasis in the truest sense, it emerges like a mirage turned reality, cradling life in its nurturing palm.

ABSTRACT

Visual symphony where the conventional ties to the physical world are severed, allowing raw expressions to take center stage. Vibrant burst of colors, combine like flames suggesting both the beauty and ferocity of nature’s elements. Each piece is an invitation to personal interpretation, a gateway to emotions untethered by literal form.

YESTERYEAR

The intention to encapsulate the spirit and emotion of a past era, along with the memories and nostalgia of individuals or communities. It suggests a focus on the historical and sentimental significance of the artwork and its ability to evoke a connection to times gone by.

EVERYDAYNESS

Art that celebrates everydayness is like a garden blooming with the flowers of the quotidian; each brushstroke captures the uncelebrated beauty of routine, the subtle dance of the ordinary, and the overlooked splendor in the familiar.
